The late American rapper and songwriter Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known as The Notorious BIG, Biggie Smalls, or simply Biggie, would have turned 50 on May 21.
Widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all time, he was shot and killed aged 24 in 1997. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of his tragic death.
His estate shared his first single in 17 years, GOAT which stars Ty Dolla Sign and Nigerian R&B singer Bella Alubo.
Afrobeat-inspired song reuses Biggie’s lyrics from the song I like dougha 1997 collaboration with rapper Jay-Z, from his studio album Life after death.
Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, told Complex.com that it was wonderful to see her son’s music reimagined for his fans and the current generation of young men and women to embrace his art.
“I appreciate the hard work of everyone involved in bringing together the perfect blend of vocals and music on this song, ‘GOAT,'” she told the magazine.
