Kendrick Lamar’s tenure with TDE is coming to an end before his last album.
The Compton rapper announced his latest TDE album on Twitter on Friday. He released a statement saying his 20 years with Top Dawg Entertainment are drawing to a close and he is preparing to release his latest album.
Kendrick Lamar has indicated that he will continue to pursue his “vocation of life”, but that he is grateful for the time he spent with TDE.
âAs I produce my latest TDE album, I feel happy to have been part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years,â Kendrick wrote. “The struggles. The success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue the calling of my life.
Kendrick Lamar posted his statement on his new website called Oklama, under which he signed his name.

TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith also confirmed the news on social media shortly after Kedrick’s announcement.
âThe overall goal when we started this thing was to make music, make money and make history,â he wrote. âWe have done these things 10 times and more. TDE and its artists have provided a way to end the generational curses we have all been personally born into over the past 17 years in this business. As this is Dot’s last album on TDE, it’s more of a VICTORY TURN, a celebration. I know he will be successful in whatever he decides to do and that he will have our full support, âhe continued.
He added that the business will continue to grow and provide services to the artist.
“As far as Top Dawg Entertainment is concerned, we will continue to grow, develop and give artists the platform to develop in any way they choose.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of management company Punch also issued a similar statement in which he said the parties were going their separate ways.
âIt’s funny when things change, because most of the time we automatically assume it’s something negative,â Punch wrote. âIt’s rarely seen as growth. Growth is a good thing and it is essential for life. Life unfolds in stages and this particular stage is almost complete. Kendrick is a generational artist who has accomplished so much and contributed so much to what we call Hip Hop. It’s just that he continues to evolve and build his own business and brand as he sees fit.
Punch also teased the upcoming Kendrick album.
âWe want every artist we work with at TDE to build, grow and be self-sufficient,â he wrote. “Exactly. Also remember that this is FAMILY and always will continue to be. Upcoming album (lol).”
The 13-time Grammy-winning artist grew up in Compton, California, and began his illustrious teenage musical career with the stage name K-Dot. His first mixtape won him his contract with the independent label TDE.
Lamar’s career took off during the 2010 decade with its retail release, Too dedicated. Over the decades, he has amassed a large online following and collaborated with the best and most prominent hip hop artists in the industry.
Among his notable achievements is his debut album on the TDE label, Good boy, MAAD City, which was released in 2012 with rave reviews and later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
