Slowstar was born from the ashes of post rock maudlinists Mondo. After building a studio in the dark basement of their house in Bromley, recording and releasing their second album, getting some fantastic reviews, everything was looking good for a triumph of d.i.y ethics and something approaching success.
Standing on the verge of a big breakthrough into general indie consciousness, the band, as all the best ones do, promptly split up and went their separate ways.
Main man and producer Jason Temple, after a few weeks of thumb twiddling, began to experiment with the vacant studio, to see what a 21st century one man band could sound like.
Six months (and a few 1/8ths) later Jason emerged from the depths of studio solitude armed with what looked suspiciously like the bones of an album.
The music combines the use of electronic and live instruments, with a healthy slab of sampling and knob twiddling thrown into the mix. Shifty Disco heard the album sampler and immediately wanted to release the track 'Out Into Space' as Slowstar's debut single, and, seeing as it is a download single from the web, the title 'Out Into Space' seems quite apt.
Comparisons have been made to Lemon Jelly, DJ Shadow, The Propeller Heads, amongst others. Pretty nice company to be in. Think dance music-but dance music for listening to......then have a listen.
