42 Xmas Songs
So here we are, Shifty Disco throwing itself early into the Xmas spirit. We've released an interesting bunch of Xmas songs over the years: Spunkle, Paul Vickers, Curbs (and even a song about New Year's Eve) and this latest comes courtesy of recent Shifty Disco signings King Of Spain.
This track is not featured on their current album, Battleships and Aeroplanes, which will get its full commercial release early in 2009 but it was a product of the same recording sessions. Here's singer Bayly to fill you in:
"The idea for song 42 was conceived one December evening when I was watching a programme on television that happened to have cargo ships in it. They were coming into port at night from out at sea bringing in goods in containers. The containers looked like giant blocks of coloured Lego and I wondered what they were carrying.. Perhaps it was boxes of Lego within the giant boxes of 'Lego' for childrens' Christmas presents. The only relevance of 42 was because it happened to be the 42nd song written by King of Spain."
The band have a few UK gigs lined up before they return to Berlin at the end of January for a short tour. Check here: www.myspace.com/kingofspainmusic
