"What the hell is that?!?
Oh, it's Pope Joan!
Indubitably one of the best bands in Brighton, their searing live performances are a spectacle to behold. How many times have you seen a guitarist play a single note that makes the whole audience run to the back of the room to get away from THE HORROR, only to have them climb over each other to make it back to the dance floor when the beat kicks in?!? Of course by that point, the bassist will be on the floor too, bent double and waltzing furiously with his bass so hard its a wonder it doesn't snap in two. But most importantly, they have proper songs with real tunes so catchy they will burn off your nostril-hairs. Just like "Our Cuisine."
Pope Joan, do not muck about, that's for sure!"
Pope Joan are four dapper young gentlemen from Brighton who specialise in writing noisy pop songs. Their sound shifts between blasts of spiky post-punk funk, ambient walls of processed guitar noise through to sheer unadulterated pop melody.Live, expect a lot of energy and everything to be played slightly faster.
The band have been busy recording rough and ready self produced demos which have been going down a right treat, getting played on various radio shows and starting to generate a fair bit of industry interest.
Having initially done their fair share of gigs to 3 people, Pope Joan have recently played some great shows with the likes of Help She Can't Swim; Ghosts; Cat the Dog; and of course My Device.
With a bit of luck, 2007 looks to be a dandy year for Pope Joan.

".playing this and loving it!" Marcus O' Dair @ Totally Wired/Juice FM
"... they add a certain charm and unique approach to processed-guitar-noise all of their own... Why this band aren't already massive I have no idea, Not every guitar-wielding youth can get away with a neckerchief and a post-punk afro. Sensational." Rollo Kim @ Brighton Gig Scene
